70's(?) Schwinn Paramount

A reseller in my area apparently found a Schwinn Paramount at a junkyard and is asking $500 for it. He states that the only camera he has is low resolution so I would have to go to take a look at it if I wanted any better views. The ad said "needs work," which he clarified over the phone as meaning: needing new cables, needing to be cleaned/polished, and having frame light rust. He said that the frame is 531 and that "most" of the components are campy(but he really didn't seem very knowledgeable). The fork looks bent in the picture, but knowing how certain angles and cameras can make it seem that way, I won't pass judgement until I see it in real life.

Can anyone glean further information from these pictures? Any idea on bike worth? Worth going to look at in person? I'm leaning towards pass at this point, but I know very little about paramounts and see them go for over $1k sometimes, so I wanted to check in.

Thanks in advance!

I saw that one in the Atlanta C/L myself. It probably won't last too long, despite issues. I really don't know the Paramount valuations, like anything though, I am sure condition is critical to the overall value. Appealing color.

+1 I am guessing bent fork as well.

If the seller is as you describe, you might be able to make a relatively low offer, particularly if the bike hangs around for a while. Its not like he has a lot of money invested into it....

worth to look at it in person (and grab the serial number on the non-drive side rear dropout to figure out the year). That's going to last for a while at $500

Something like that in mint condition might be worth $600-1000. It really depends on the extent of the rust and overall condition of the parts. Paramounts is full chrome or painted with chrome lugs bring the big money.

The bike in question appears to be relatively original. In its present condition its worth no more than $300 to me.....possibly less. In this particular instance you would NOT work backwards to determine the price.

For example if its worth $800 fully restored and it needs $300 worth of parts its not worth $500 ($800-300=$500)
