Worth it?
Centurion Lemans 50$
"Centurion Lemans Road Bike, Custom built in late 70's, stored since early 80's, 28" tires that are cracked from age and need replacing, Suntour gears, centerpull brakes, some paint chipped off but in great condition overall. Frame size?? I'm 5'11. Very lightweight frame. $50.00

Should be long gone by now. A Centurion for $50, you need to be in the car driving.

Not until it's in your car. If at all possible, go get it now. Some have been known to snipe a bike like that with a higher offer, like $60 and the seller let's it go. While I've never done that, I have offered a seller more than asking in my CL e-mail if I know it's an outstanding deal.

I felt a little bad since it has happened to me. I once road my bike 3 miles to a guy's place at 10:00 p.m. in the dead of winter to snag a Bianchi w/ Columbus tubing (never found out what the bike was). When I turned onto his block I pulled over to answer my phone--him telling me that the bike was gone. That was not a fun ride home.

Yep, in my garage...Suntour xc-gt RD and FD, suzie tied to araya rims. Looks great, only thing is the paint is flaking in some spots, and it is just bare steel underneath starting to look rustish in some spots...

I unknowingly did that yesterday... Somebody had a Cannondale R800 with full tri color group posted for $75, no picture and said it had been sitting for 10 years inside. I offered $160 (pending inspection). After I bought it she said to me..."so what should I say to the other guy I already told could have it".

Craigs List is the land of no shows, and the land of sellers with no standards. The only protection you have is to get there first. So it is best to get in the car and drive immediately if it is a smokin hot deal, and to try to have the seller hold it while you are in transit. I have had several sellers agree to my "I'll call when I leave the house, so please hold it while I am in transit". That's a reasonable request IMHO, and one I use for buyers of items I am selling.

So far my experiences with CL have been positive. I built most of a bike using allofcraigslist.com, everyone was ok with shipping stuff to me. I didnt even use paypal once, though my only gripe was a 3TTT stem I bought was miss represented as a different model. I still got a fair price for the stem, though it did have some cosmetic damage that was not shown well in the picture. Though picking up a set of barely used Ultegra 6600 sl brakes for 50 bucks made up for it.
