What is my Davidson worth?

1990 Davidson Impulse 53-54CM? Shimano 600 Group, Cinelli stem and Campione del Mundo bars, 7 speed free hub and DT index shifters. Pristine condition, maybe a couple of small nicks. New Brooks Champion Flyer leather saddle. Biopace rings.

531 or SL frame? Bill Davidson bikes are hard to come by and these older ones could probably go for $600-800 if all original and in tip top shape. One of the problems is that not many people know what these bikes are, so selling on CL is hard. Ebay is the way to go with this. Looks more like a 56cm from here. A few things you might want to consider are replacing the bar tape and replacing the saddle to something more appropriate for the bike (those ones are meant for bikes with bars at or higher than the saddle; a Brooks professional might be the way to go there, if you are into Brooks), but spending money on a saddle will not be recoverred when that saddle is sold attached onto a bike.

I just bought a later vintage ('93-ish) Impulse in similar condition (pristine with a couple small nicks, but will need significant cleaning) equipped with D-A 7700 for $500. This was after a few years of negotiating however. The 600 group is nice to ride, but not worth very much to a collector. Nevertheless, I would put fair market at around $500-600. But the real answer is who cares? Keep it and ride it. It's a beautiful bike (though I might swap that Flyer for something a little more sporting like a Concor or early Flite; the Flyer feels a little too tour/trek for the nature if the Impulse, but that's just me).

Davidson's tend not to attract a lot of interest from the vintage/classic bike crowd, so I think the $500-600 is probably on the mark, given the nice (to me anyway) color and condition, though I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell for a little less. I don't think personally that it's especially rare - Davidson was a multi-person outfit putting out maybe 10 frames a week, at least during part of its history.

There is no tubing decal so I don't know. It feels very light. I still have the original torture device. I mean seat. It is not for sale at this time. I was just wondering how much it is worth. It may be 56cm. I need to measure it.

If you want to get a better idea of the build data of your Davidson, email Bob Freeman, co-owner of Elliott Bay Cycles in Seattle. Get good pictures of the decals, top of the seat stays, etc. -- their designs changed over the years and I think Bob can zero in on a production year if you give him enough detail.

Davidson are a bit more common and desired here in Seattle; you see everything from pristine vintage Davidson just out of repaint to old Davidson hauling kids in trailers (like I saw yesterday). Sometimes I see Davidsons like yours all beat up and used for commuting -- sometimes I see them with brand new, top-of-the-line modern parts.

Use the link in my sig line to get the email address...

if you were to sell it, I'd take the saddle off and put almost anything else on it. It wouldn't help the value and they are fairly expensive.
