1964 Norman

Hi all,
I decided that I want a project bike and have been watching CL for something that catches my eye. Today there is a 1964 Norman...which I have never heard of but I like the old British 3 speeds in general. It definitely needs some work but has good bones. She said that I could take it home for $65. Is it worth it or am I opening a can of worms?

That's a pretty good deal, considering there's no rust or other obvious problems. There's nothing on that bike that will be hard to find.

As for Norman, I have a couple from ca 1950, and I love them. Norman was a family-owned business in Ashford, Kent; the Norman brothers sold the business to TI, who later bought Raleigh, after which all manufacturing went to the Raleigh factory at Nottingham (summer '61). The bike you're looking at is from the Raleigh factory. There's nothing wrong with that, though I would prefer an Ashford one.

Thanks for your quick input! Yeah, I think I'll pick it up today...I think she'll be a nice ride once fixed up. I'm digging the forums here...and will surely be posting with some more Norman questions soon!

Did you end up getting the bike? I saw that same ad and am curious to see what the bike looks like. Would you mind posting some pics of the bike? Thanks.

No, and I'm glad I decided to pass. Picked up a mint 1971 Triumph instead. All original down to the tires and tubes.
