Torelli Frame with Campy
 

Hey guys just wanted to see what the experts thought of this buy:

Road Ready 57cm Torelli Italian Campagnolo Racing Road Bike 5’9”-6’0” - $600

A classic Italian made lugged steel road bike outfitted with Campagnolo cranks, derailleurs, shifters, and hubs. Completely serviced and ready to ride with a new chian, new handle bar tape, and new cables and housing. Columbus double butted chromoly frame tubes and fork blades with Gipiemme forged dropouts front and rear. Seat tube is 57cm center to center and it has a 32.5” standover so it will fit riders from 5’9” to 6’0”. New tires too! Wheels are 700c clinchers with Ambrosio rims. I'm in the market for an older road bike, but it seems that the Bay Area Craigslist and market is a bit inflated, any opinions, info or replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

nice looking bike but IMHO it is a bit over priced. what kind of columbus frame? with Gipiemme dropouts I suspect it is a CroMor or Alle frame rather than SL. the Victory/Triomphe is good solid stuff but alot of C&V fell it lacks panache.

Torellis were (or are) nice frames and gennerally sell about $100 or so less than a comperable Columbus frame from Tomasso, Ghirodana, or Geurceotti. I just think, even for a inflated market, this is a bit over priced.

OH and if was just serviced why did the 'mechanic' adjust the front brake with the QR open?

Thanks for the info Bianchigirll. My novice eyes didn't even catch that. I really appreciate the timely response and info. As I mentioned before I am in the market for a road bike, so I may be posting this type of thread in this forum, if it gets to be too much just let me know. I really do appreciate the info and am trying to retain all this info as best I can. Thanks again.

i noticed that too bianchigirl (mind tellin us your name??)

what i find odd however is while the lever is "up" the cam looks like its in the "closed" position. i.e. it appears like if you turned the lever down it would slacken the cable an open the brake.

here is my opinions:
- vintage bikes are all about what its worth to the buyer
- i would much rather spend $600 on this than a modern "beginners bike"
- victory (it looks to have and aluminum jockey wheel cage) is good solid stuff (and i dont mind the plain looks :) )
- it may not be a desirable frame, but its got classy italian style
- it probably rides great
- its not something you see everyday
- its a set of victory brakes, toe clips, and a longer stem away from being my perfect "city bike"

this will give you an overall idea what the components are worth (other than the modolo brakes)

that basso is gorgeous, i may have to throw a bid in there on. does anyone know how true to size those frames run? im 6'1' and my fg is a 56cm fits me as best i can tell. i wouldnt run into any issue with that basso being 56cm would i? i know 56cm is 56cm no matter what frame, just wondering if it has odd geometry or anything like that? basically dont want to buy something that fits me horribly.

i am a little over 6 foot and ride a 60cm classic frame and still have a lot of post and a 130mm stem

I would recomend atleast trying some larger bikes. if your 6'1" I would think you would ride atleast a 59+

the seller does not state the tubing type just Comumbus so I suspect a an Alle or Cromor frame, not that there is anything wrong with either. and what is the deal with the Basso/D'Arienzo? this is built by Basso for another company?

What do I know but it looks to me like that RD won't clear the large sprocket. New wheels? Did the seller ever ride it with them?
