I want to see what my Le Tour would bring....

In a real world market. so I put it on Feebay with a reserve and a BIN of $300.
I know it may not actually sell but who knows I might just get lucky.
Do you think it might hit that much?

questions

1. why bother replacing the chain on a bike that has been barely ridden?

2. What is with the saddle position? It visually detracts from the bike and if I were an ignorant bidder that one visual put off might make me look elsewhere.

It's a VERY nice looking LeTour, but I can't imagine ANY leTour hitting $300.

There are times when eBay brings far more than a bike is worth - but I find that for lesser known makes or anything less than a "grail" bike, it brings LESS.

Part of the reason for eBay price deflation is the risk one assumes when buying a bike based only on a sellers description and a few fuzzy photos. (I just make sure that a few of the parts are worth the selling price of the bike, in case I get burned. )

When you include shipping, the bike is already over full market value, and you have four days left! With three different bidders, and five bids, you are doing great. This one has a ways to run yet.

I'm going to guess this bike goes for $225.

I remember last year when a Super Sport with a bent fork went for $1300. There is tremendous variance in ebay pricing. Often it makes no sense. Good bikes can go ridiculously low (I've picked up a few of them), or ridiculously high. Every once in a while, stuff actually goes for what it is worth.

I have found that right or wrong one the first things people ask me when looking at a used bike for sale is what condition the chain is in... replacing is cheap and eliminates any questions about it. I think it's something about chains that spooks people. They might not have problem with rotted tires and rusty spokes but if the chain is even dusty away they walk... It just makes selling easier. And I used the old one on a cheap flipper so I'm already ahead
I guess I should have adjusted the seat to a more general position. Ride most of my bikes that way and never gave it another thought

The use of the word "proprietary" should be done with great caution. One might think that it's impossible to replace the derailers, given what you wrote.

I would also replace the words "steer head" with headset. If you use the right words, it might inspire more confidence in your craftsmanship.

What ever you did on that auction, it is working! I'd use the term "Schwinn branded or LeTour branded" Suntour derailleur.

You have a very nice bike and I wish my '78 looked that good, but I also think your dreaming to think it'll bring $300. . I've discovered that La Tours do not get much respect...good luck!

Bids are at $275 with 1day and 4 hours left.

IMO, that is some mighty good selling there!!

The link you provided wouldn't work for me, I had to search for it.

I would love to know what percentage of the 30+ watchers are possible buyers.
I have had good draw to the ad with over 500 views

I am watching it an I am not a potential buyer

In general, I suspect that about 1/5 of the watchers are potential buyers including snipe applications. The rest are people who are interested. Usually, if I have something to sell on ebay, I watch auctions with similar/identical stuff to get an idea of the value.

Well, it did not make $300, but it came pretty close.
Kudos to you.

Thanks!
It is a nice bike and I wish it fit me... I think the bike sold itself but I have learned a bit on how to package a auction over the years but am by no means a pro...
I do wonder if this Le Tour sale is small indicator a of what future auctions of like type bikes will bringing. I am leaning toward the thought that this was an anomaly and not anything else.
Thanks to all who gave me their tips.

Anomaly, you had two newbie bidders that just had to have it. No experienced bidders involved at all.

Shows the variance in ebay sales. As a seller, sometimes you do great, sometimes you don't. I wish it was more consistent, but its just the way it is at the bay.

I sold two similar LeTours in the last year, both were in outstanding condition. Sold them for about 1/2 of what you got on this auction, and I felt lucky to get that much. You did very well.
