miele gara

i just recently picked up an old miele gara frame with full shimano 600. i ditched the 600 stuff and added a mix of da/ultegra 10spd and it rides like a dream. unfortunately i cannot find any history on this particular model miele. could anyone tell me a little bit about it?
ps: that brake cable has since been trimmed.

You would get a better response posted in the Classic & Vintage thread, instead of the Classic & vintage appraisal thread. Maybe a Moderator can move it. Nice bike!

what do you want to know? the frame tubing is Columbus Gara yes? is there a model nane or number on the TT? with the older 600 parts someone may have been able to give an approximate date. according to the '89 Columbus tubing chart a basic gara tubing is straight guage.

GARARoad set especially suited for amateur and touring cyclists who demand stout,
lightweight racing frames. Cr Mo Steel - Weight: 2300 g

A tad surprising that a GARA frame would be outfitted with full 600, no?

I don't think so. I had always thought alot of Mieles were sold like the TenSpeed Drive bikes a frame and "kit" so you could mix and match.

personally I think that if the 600 he took off was the dark grey style the bike might have looked nicer with it.

I agree that the 600 stuff would have looked nicer. There is another thread in the C&V forum that says that the model name is "Gara" and someone noted that it was near top of the line, so the tubing may not be Gara after all.

That's the first question. Someone suggested an SLX frame, but that's not the fork decal I associate with SLX frames. I believe the Gara decal had a pink border (at least at one point), which I don't see here, but it would be helpful top know what it says.

the fork decal says colombus cromor. but thats the fork, not the frame. the original owner told me it was slx tubing, so thats what ive been going off of.
was there a regular gara and a road issue gara model? i really wish there was more info on the old miele company rather than the new miele company which is comparable to something like huffy, or magna, or whatever they are selling at toys r us.

My money's on that being a Cromor frame. There was apparently a Gara model that was all Cromor, and in some years this included 600. Makes more sense to me than the oddball Cromor/SLX mix (I'd expect at least SL-decaled forks on an SLX main triangle), especially with the second-tier parts.

http://italiancyclingjournal.blogspo...for-frame.html

OH I once again slightly missread the post I thought the OP said the frame was Gara tubed but the Modeli Gara aparently.

I did find this while looking for different Milel models and pics.

im looking for someone who wants to trade for one of those black concor reissues with the ti rails. i have a brown one on my fixed gear and its so much more comfortable.
if anyone cares, this is what it originally looked like before i retrofitted it.

I worked in a shop that sold those. That was the year (1989?) they went to internal cable routing (big holes punched in the tube!), neon decals, and putting Sikkens paint decals on everything. The Gara was third from top-of-the-line, I think. Full Columbus Cromor tubeset and Shimano 600. Last year for Biopace chainrings, I believe.

my girlfriends from mississauga. she had never heard of the name before. ironically, her older brother owns a bright yellow miele doral. whats the story on the sikkens thing? was that a brand of paint or just the name of some fancy powdercoater who mixed glitter in the paint and didnt do a layer of clearcoat over the decals?

I'm pretty sure they're wet paint jobs, and I guess it was some kind of business deal Miele made with Sikkens who wanted or needed some brand promotion.

I thought so! I don't know about the rest of you but I think the bike looks better this way, well that seat has to go. the grey Ultegra really blends to the frame color. and there is something about that new crankset...

BTW I was looing around on Flickers Columbus bikes group and found some lavendar/purplish colored GARA decals but no pink

It's probably that the lavender version looked pink on my screen.

I think both versions of this nice bike look just right.

The only reason to change a saddle is fit.

So the Rolls doesn't fit?

Here is a Concor link at PBK:

http://www.probikekit.com/display.ph...ring%20Saddles

Did you keep the gruppo + wheelset?

the wheels were ma40s laced to some specialized hubs. i delaced the hubs and threw them in the trash and laced the rims to some 36 hole dura ace track hubs for my miyata pista that i am rebuilding. the gruppo is in a box at my parents house. i have no need for biopace rings. if anyone reading this has a black concor that they want to trade for the black rolls i have i would do it in a heartbeat.
