Pinarello Record frameset that needs paint

I've got a Pinarello frameset, what I believe is a Record model. I intended to restore and build it up, but I've decided to go another direction. I did build it up for a short time just to see how it rode, and it rode beautifully.

I'm having difficulty determining value since it needs paint. It is fully chromed beneath the paint. Also has nice chrome details on chainstay, fork crown, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

wow that Pinarello has seen a hard life. asigning a value is hard as the buyer has to consider the cost of a repaint or powder coat. what tubing SL? are the wheels included?
I would say try and get what you paid for it.

is your wainscoating white for the 'garage door' affect?

I'd need to see better pics...maybe 5 or 6 shots highlighting various sections of the frameset. Any internal rust? Any dings or dents?

That picture on eBay would get you $100-125.

Honestly, I do not think the paint is indicative of it having a hard life. Pinarello paint and decals are notoriously poor. The chrome on the bike is in excellent shape, and beautiful. The stem, seatpost, and BB came out easily and the inside of the tubes is in great shape. I believe the tubing is SL.

What is a shame is that I doubt a painter can recreate this great shade of blue. The repaints of this color that I have seen look "off." I figured someone could get it powder coated for whatever that costs and have a great frame cheaply.

The wheels are for sale separately - check the C&V for sale section. Nisi tubulars with large flange Campy hubs. The real deal!

Wainscoting is the new garage door.

I know of a local place who could do it, but they charge a pretty penny. Bilenky is an artist with paint matching.

I had a Pinarello of that color (and size, come to think of it) for a while. Got it on ebay, and sold it on ebay after deciding it was too big for me. It had Super Record components, dated '83 as I recall.

At any rate, I was able to fix the paint and decals pretty well; the decals are just white, and pretty easy to replicate with white paint and a brush; for the blue, IIRC I got a can of Testors spray paint in a color called "sapphire" and it matched the original very well.

Of course I put more effort into the restoration than it was worth, and I had to explain in the ebay listing that I had repaired the paint and decals... but the buyer was pleased, so I guess it was a success.

It is large unfortunately, there has been a string of large bikes on ebay that have not obtained reasonable prices, an older Cinelli in nice shape complete for $1,600. and an Alex Singer for just over $1,000!!?

The paint that is there does not present well, even with the poor expectation for Pinarello original paint. Doing a cheap respray will probably not help much nor a full bore job either.

If the chrome is great, that will help. Max as it is $150. These just don't have the lust factor of a beat Colnago, Cinelli or Masi.

There was a guy around here that stripped all the paint from a Pinarello and etched the "decals" into the chrome. I was so stoked on that I stripped mine down (my downtube was about that bad as the OPs, but not as bad elsewhere), but alas, my chrome had been sanded prior to paint.

Might have to check out the Testors and let her wear that for a couple years 'til I hit the lottery and can allocate funds for a serious repaint.
