Raleigh Record

One more time...

No pictures yet, going to look at it tomorrow. I understand probably bottom end road bike from Raleigh. 1966-1970/71 based on color. Any clue if it's perfect (assuming age).

I sold this minty '74 for $120 a little while back. - If yours is really a late 60's I would give it a little more - $150-ish with DT shifters.

Not really a lot for such a classic looking bike, but you have to factor in that a lot of people fear cottered cranks, and no one likes steel rims.

PS - "Bottom end" for Raleigh not quite like the "bottom end" for some other makes of that era.

OK now I'm confused, the 1974 catalog on Sheldon Brown's page does not show a record. When I first saw the (badly worded) listing I thought he may have been mistaken on the age, it was only after talking to him on the phone, realizing it was actually a record (ad listed it as a 10 spd sport), and hearing the color, that I looked through the catalogs and guessed the years myself.

The value you gave was about where I thought it would be. The only reason I'm looking at it is that it is a Raleigh.

BTW that's the color I'm looking at.

OK found it in the specs page of 74, but not in that color, didn't realize those weren't full scans. Saw nothing for 73 and after 74 the colors change even more.

Bottom end bike with some nice styling: $100 around here. Just a matter of what you are looking for. If you want that vintage look at a low entry point, go for it.

Auchen, nice job on that Record! To the OP, if you find one in that good of shape, then $120 is reasonable.

Just realize $100 is ready to go. So if it is a project, unless you are ready and able to do the work yourself, the value can drop to about zero.

Supposedly ready to ride, no mention of rust but just ageing of paint, pealing decals, etc. Looking for a cheap rider but I want my money's worth. I'll post pictures this evening, even if I pass I'll want the feedback.

Absolute piece of junk. Not even worth taking the time to take pictures and get a second opinion. Rust everywhere. Even through all that I could see why everyone likes the Raleigh's. Clearly used to be a nice machine. Oh Well back to scouring. Why is it I find great deals BEFORE I know what I'm looking at.
