Please Help with Info Regarding this "JC Penney" Bike

I purchased this bike at an estate sale for $30. I just like the vintage-ish style and will likely ride it around my neighborhood once I fix it up. I am a newbie to this forum and bikes in general so I no nearly nothing about it. Everything seems original. It has (likely after market) a spedometer and odometer. There is a "JC Penney" sticker on the front of the frame and the frame says "5 Speed Lightweight". Can anyone help me with some information on this bike and it's potential worth? Thank you!

It's a department store bike, not worth a lot in cash, but the value of your experience in fixing it up, plus the pleasure of riding around the neighborhood on it, should exceed what you paid for it. That chrome looks pretty good for a 1970's era bicycle. You can search this forum for the best methods of cleaning, polishing and removing rust, although I don't see much rust other than on the chain. Look up "Oxalic acid" to start.

$30 is pretty much full market value in that condition. Should make a good solid rider.
