What is this Miyata 1000 worth?
Does anyone have a sense for how much the 85 (I believe) Miyata 1000 below is really worth? These seem to have so much hype surrounding them that it is hard to get a realistic read on pricing.
The seller is willing to take $400 but wants $62 for shipping plus $20 for handling, making this an almost $500 bike delivered. Worth it or too much?
FWIW, it is exactly my size, and I've been searching for a true long distance tourer with a triple for some time.
The bike has a fair bit of pitting and rust spots on the top tube, but closeups of the head tube and bottom bracket give no reason for concern about internal rust. Otherwise the components look to be in good shape.

I think that's substantially lower than they normally sell for (depending on condition). I'd estimate the average ebay sale price (which fluctuates for size, condition and parts) at about $600-$700.

Or $4 for some clear nail polish. I don't think that condition is that rough or prolematic. I do think you're paying about what it's worth, not getting a huge steal.

Thanks - you've been very helpful.
In this case I'm comfortable paying what it is worth. I've been looking for a true tourer for some time, it is my size, and I have two trips planned for later this year for which it would be perfect. It sounds like I can be reasonably sure I could sell and largely recover my investment (specially in the Boston market) so I don't really see a downside to this.
