Bottecchia w/ Campagnolo components, Columbus SLX tubing, custom paint, chrome lugs
So, I'm thinking of buying the following bike. I was told that the bike is a Bottecchia frame from the early 1990s. It has Columbus SLX butted tubing. The components are all Campagnolo, mostly from the Chorus and Racing Triple set. The bike is on consignment at a shop, selling for $800, but I could probably negotiate with the guy selling it. Of course, there is no warranty or returns with a consignment bicycle. My only real concern is that it is a bit small. The seat tube is probably a few cm short, and I would have to get a new seat post to sit higher-up (the current seat post is a very nice Campagnolo, but it is also very short). The top tube is rather short given the size of the seat tube. The bike rides fantastic. I could take hills easily, and it offers an incredibly smooth ride over bumps. I'm also 6'4", have trouble finding anything that fits, and am used to riding a bike that is rather small for me. Do you think it's worth it? (in terms of fit and price). I plan on using the bike to commute 4 miles each way to and from work, and additional riding on the weekend.

Hello ixtx welcome to the forums. the bike certainly looks like an ok deal, $800 for SLX and a Ergo Chorus is not bad. the pics don't do alot to show the condition of the bike but since it looks you are buying it from a shop or some type of reseller I can only assume it is atleast in good mechanical shape.
the size concerns me. no matter how good the price seems if you are already ralkinf about a taller seat post the bike might be too small. what size is this bike? IMHO if you need more than say an inch more seat post than a standard allows you may need something bigger.
OH it is a Chorus triple w/DP brakes. what are the wheels? 8 or 9 Spd?

Bottecchia fit
I probably need another 1.5 inches past where the current seat post can go. I think the wheels are 8 speed. I intend to go back to the shop on Friday, go on a longer ride, and then see how it feels. Thanks for the advice.
Late update: The seat tube is already 62 or 63 cm. It's difficult finding large quality frames.
