Folding Flying Dutchman Bicycle

This bike was given to me. Not sure of the age, but guessing it was made in the 70's. The serial number is 225539. The plague on the front says Van Der Kolk & Son, 509 Broadway, Glendale Ca. Just wondering if it is worth anything. Would like any info you have. Thank You. 9/13 Haven't had any response to my question....please respond if you know anything about this bike...Thank you

The Flying Dutchman bike shop & brand was rather popular in the Glendale and surrounding areas in the late 1960s and the 1970s. Mr. Van Der Kolk and his sons (plus later his grandson) ran this unique bike shop. While I did not own a folding model, I own 2 of these bikes. It was a touring model with derailleur multiple speeds, dropped handlebars, and an Alpine (extreme low) gear. The first one was stolen in 1973. I bought another one just like it and it last many, many years until my garage roof fell on it. It is not much monetary in value, but they are very good bikes. Unlike most cheap junk which passes for a bike nowadays.

Without pictures and a more complete description of the bicycle, is is all but impossible to determine Vintage Bicycle Value. That said, the Flying Dutchman brand does have collectable value, however; folding bicycles, generally, do not. I speak from personal experience and do not suggest, for a moment, that my experiences apply to all brands and and in all locations.

This old BSA Twenty went for $10.00 on Ebay and I could not even get a bite on this old Olmo...

In the vintage folder arena, there is the Raleigh Twenty, and then everything else. Raleigh 20s get a good response. Almost anything else goes cheap.
