claud butler majestic 531 and raleigh record ace 531

Hi guys,
I am new about classic bikes and I am pondering to buy either a claud butler majestic 531 reynolds or a raleigh record ace 531 reynolds.

1st questions: which would be a fair price for these bikes assuming that they're both conserved in a fairly good state? I'm UK based.

2nd question: one is a tourer the other is a racer, should I expect a massive difference in weight or a negligible difference?

Many thanks!

Are you sure that Record Ace is 531? I had a Record Ace earlier this year, it was heavy and made out of high ten steel. Hopefully you are not looking at that model/year.

If you want values, you really need to post a lot more details and some good pictures. Models changed year to year. So a bike that might be mediocre one year, might be pretty nice another year.

In general, touring bikes are heavier than racing bikes, for a "comparable" model.

To the below, the Record Ace I had was a 1978. If the one you are looking at is that 1973 model, that is a really nice bike. The 1978 really didn't share anything in common, other than the name.

There was a REAL Record Ace for sale here in Detroit a week or two ago - A real time machine from the early 70's, with the original team wheel slips and everything for $2200. I don't know if it sold, but it was quite the collector's item.

Also, many years before that, the Raleigh Record Ace was a high end model - but when Raleigh resurrected the name later on, it was just the Hi-Ten model Bill referred to - like a regular 70's Record.

But I am sure you know all this, if you are seriously weighing the RRA against the Claude Butler.
I can't offer any guess as to the value of either bike - but if you care to post pictures, there may be someone here who could.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

I think that we need to get Pars to chime in on this one, as he has a RRA. The RRA is a very fine bike with Nervex Pro lugs and tubulars for a few years, if I recall correctly.

I just saw one today and it was beautiful. It looked identical to this:

Edit: Looks like it was only offered in 1973.

Hi I am looking at one of this:

https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalog...3/ral83_05.jpg

1983 531 reynolds campagnolo derallieurs. You guys are in the US market so RRA editions there might have been different from the UK ones.
Cheers everybody!
