Westfield Sports Lightweight

[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]I am looking for date of manf. and value info on a Westfield Sports Lightweight that I own. Ser # E75464 (G7) Two speed. Front & rear hand brakes in perfect working order. Tire size 26 X 1.375 Allstate. Tires hold air & show no wear. Two speed rear hub "England Sturmey Archer AW O"
"Sports Tourist" label on bar from sproket hub to steering hub.
This bike has been riden very little and has always been kept in inside protected storage.
Two speed handle and hub shifter work well. However, needs new shift cable.
Handle bars have light rust but no damage. Seat is very good shape.
Overall the bike is in very good to excellent condition & rideable as is.
Comments welcome.

Photos aren't working for me! I'd like to see them, though.

AW is Sturmey Archer's most common three speed hub (not two speed), introduced in 1938 . The shifter is probably marked L, N, H for low, normal, high gears. Post-war hubs have a two-digit date code that's pretty obvious; 48 = 1948. Earlier ones have a one-digit code, so 0 = 1940.

That tire size is obsolete, and now very hard to find, but agrees with a 1940 date.

Sounds like a very nice bike! Unfortunately (for you), American "lightweights" are not highly sought after. People who collect American bikes tend to go for the balloon tired ones.

RHM, Thanks for the reply. Being new to this site, I seem to be having a problem attaching photos from Picasa. Advise needed.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I don't know Picassa, but you should be able to get the photo's location from them. Maybe a right click on the image, or something like that. Anyway, copy that into the clipboard. Then here, click "go advanced" at the lower right corner, then the picture of a tree at the upper left, and enter that image location. That should do it.
