It has Michelin tires, French "Normandy" hubs, centre-pull Weinmann brakes, a Wright leather seat, Simplex levers & derailleurs, and the serial number on it is 279793. It has a 23-inch frame and except for some decal damage the bike appears to be in excellent condition. Stickers on tubes and fork legs and a label on the seat tube says the bike frame is made of TRU-WEL 205 ERW Steel Tube. The boots on the Weinmann brake levers have "Carlton" on them. Wheel nuts and seat bolt have a "C" in red and silver. Suspect that the Mickey Mouse decal may not be stock. Stickers on tubes & fork indicate made by Carlton in Worksop, England. Any info about this Carlton Raleigh Grand Prix bike appreciated !! How old is this thing ?? |
Wow - it sure looks like a Carlton build. I can only guess about 1970-1. . . I've never seen any but Nottingham or Gazelle built GP's in the past.
This one is very intriguing ! It looks like it has a Stronglight 3-spoke cottered crank (a drive side photo would be helpful!) - I'd expect to see this on a Carlton SC. Hope someone else can comment. |
It appears to be 1971-1972.

Yes...
It has a cottered crank with "MADE BY STRONGLIGHT" stamped on the crank arms. So. I have too many bikes. Anyone have an idea of what I should offer this one for on the Toronto Craigslist ?? |
