Maybe a Better Deal Than I Thought, Then Again--Maybe Not!: 2 Proflex 455
I've been wanting to restore a vintage mountain bike (I hope these 2 qualify). I saw 2 Proflex 455's listed for $200 (pair). I was disappointed when I first saw them, but I made an offer on the pair-$100. He relunctantly accepted; I relunctantly bought them. After getting them home and more closely inspecting them, I may have done okay. The component groups are basic, but the frames intrigue me. Thankfully, he included 2 new elastomers for the the rear suspension. He said that he paid $50 each for them. How did I do? Did I get a deal, get the value, or did I get taken? Thanks!

you paid $100 for both? I think you did pretty good.

Back in the day the 455 had a nice ride. I loved mine. The elastomers were the problem as time went on, just finding them. If you have new ones thats a deal.

damn good deal!!.....but I love old MTB's.......especially with the replacement elastomers.....too bad they don't have the Girven forks though..the forks you got are probably better; but the Girvens were a slick design.........I would have jumped all over 'em at $200.....

Condition looks good. Should be able to clean them up and grease everything and sell one for $150. Keep the other and you end up with a free bike. You can't beat that deal in my opinion.

Thank you everyone for your help! I was highly uncertain about my purchase until I rode one of the bikes. Much to my surprise, it rode nicely. I intend to put trigger shifters, a low rise handlebar, new grips, new saddle, and other similiar changes to one. And as suggested, I will fix up the other and sell it.
