Mercier "Le Velo De Mercier" with Campy components
Hi!
I'm trying to find more information about this bike before I buy it. The guy wants $250 and I'm looking to buy it as a Christmas present to my roommate.

It has Nervar (?) cranks, mavic rims, and campy shifting/braking. Trying to figure out what it's worth. I'm a Raleigh guy so this is a little beyond my knowledge.
My other option is a 85' Trek 660 for $215. What do you think?

The icture resolution is too low to accurately identify the components and make an assessment, though it does appear to be 1980s entry level to low mid-range.

As much as I'd love to prefer the Mercier, the Trek is very likely to be the better deal (based on limited info). As always, size is the most important factor.
FYI, you're a very generous roommate!

Yea, I'm going with the Trek. The Mercier was in terrible condition. Too bad, it was a beautiful frame. I would've taken it for $50, not $250. The whole thing needed to be stripped down and most of the components thrown out.
Yea, I have three bikes, 2 classic Raleighs (61' and 74') and a rainy day commuter (Trek 720 multitrack) with a couple velo orange parts to make it decent. He really likes the classic style but has nowhere to start. I figure it's a gift to both of us. I enjoy reworking classic frames and he wants something in our classic & vintage style. I'm paying for the initial bike but he's going to be on the hook for all the parts.
Thanks for the recommendations. I absolutely love being a part of the classic & vintage community.
