mid 70's vent noir

Just got my first rode bike and was wondering what some of you experienced road guys(and gals) think about it. Mid 70's Austro Daimler Vent Noir. Has the orignal looking black dura ace front derailleur and black Crane rear d. Campagnolo shifters(not sure what ones), Campagnolo record hubs laced to Rigida rims. Dura ace calipers(not black ones) Stronglight cranks and cinelli bar and stem. I think some of this is original but not sure. Is it worth anything? I'm keeping it anyway so it doesn't really matter I guess but would still like to know. Any other info would be appreciated.

Hi ventnoit -

There are a lot of people who like these bikes - An original in good condition is a highly sought after bike and quite valuable.

I am having a hard time placing yours though - The earlier ones were a sort of ceramic matte black/stealth paint job, 1st gen DA "drillium" cranks, Crane DR's, Shimano shifters, gold Fiamme sprint rims, and GB stem and Map of England bars.

The later ones were all black chrome, and insofar as I know all Campy. Having Rigida rims with Stronglight and DA parts suggests to me that someone de-Campy-fied yours before you got to it. - Still very decent components though.

We would like to see pics - then you'll get some additional insights from the A-D cognoscenti here .

PS - Here are some catalog scans to help you ID your bike:

Here are some pics. Not digging the red tires, red cable housing and shifter covers but otherwise I like it. Still haven't rode it outside though, waiting for the snow to melt now. Wife seems to not like the fact I try to ride in the house...what else is an open floor plan for?? Let me know what you think, thanks.

I dont know anything about that type of bike but i like the way it looks ha it looks good with the gold details. I agree on the red though it seems every 8 outa 10 bikes is red and unless its your fav color i would rock sometihng dif. Whats the weight like? does it seem heavy compared to other steel or is it fairly light..

I agree with you that the the red has to go - but apart from that it's a lovely bike.
I have a Mixte version from about the same year.
The Vent Noir, as noted previously, is often considered a "grail" bike - so I'd have to say you're doing pretty well for your first road bike.
(Mine was a Sears Free Spirit! )

change the tires and brake levers. Otherwise, it is a very nice looking bike.
