1999 Schwinn Peleton

Still trying to find that diamond in the rough.

Looks clean. Haven't seen it in person yet. Curious what you guys think a fair price for this ride? Near as I can tell it is all stock items.

I had the exact same bike in a 56 and it rode great! I was told it was stock too which, for mine, was full Ultegra 9-speed with Open Pros laced to Ultegra hubs. I bought it for $500, swapped out the wheels (still have them on my Ciocc, one helluva wheelset!) and sold it for $775.

Nice bike, if you can get it for $400 to $500, take it.

I have a slightly newer one that had a carbon fiber fork (1" Threadless) and more white paint on the chain & seat stays. Mine was partially complete as a fixie (bar, front brake, front Campy/Mavic wheel, rear White Ind UNO/Mavic wheel, bullhorn bar w/ brake lever, no seat, no crank, etc.) for about the cost of a few good tires. Once I built it up (Ultegra/DA 10 speed...basically a modern sort of bike), I realized what a NICE riding bike it is. I don't know how much a factor the aluminum fork vs carbon is for ride quality. These should be the deal of the century in Reynolds 853 frames since they don't sport a "sexy" name for the average bike snob of today. When I've compared my total build to ones for sale around the country, I've found prices tend to be around $500

Yep, they are great bikes and generally undervalued. The 56cm one that I mentioned above was a bit small, which was why I sold it. But still, I liked the ride so much that I bought a 58 a few months later for only $450! An 853 frame with Ultegra hanging off of it for only $450! That Schwinn name is a catch-22

Got it for $300.00. Little disappointed in the overall appearance of the bike. Not all the original parts are there. Mismatched calipers, that type thing. I just need to keep in mind that I was in it for the frame and fork. I will start a thread in CV here shortly. Promise to have a picture heavy thread.

funny, I've actually kept mine purposely as mismatched as possible.....accentuating the Frankenbike nature of it...and on top of it it's a nice riding bike. Here's mine

and here's a link to more pics...
https://www.fiataccompli.com/bike/201...n-peloton.html

I've put probably a couple thousand miles on it since the pics were taken. Replaced the fork with a basic carbon fork (the original on mine was carbon too) after I noticed cracks in the paint around where the blades meet the crown (later, i've wondered if that was really a problem or if it was a bit "normal" in terms of a single paint surface covering two dissimilar materials-aluminum & carbon fiber). Anyway, hope you enjoy it. I do love mine!
