Drysdale bicycle Value?

So I am cleaning my grandparents attic and I find this and wonder what the value might be? It says Drysdale Special and has a Brooks seat. I will try and get more pictures and info later.

A lot. Would love to see more photos. Was your grandfather a track cyclist? If so, that's something you might want to keep in the family.

Sorry, I'm no expert, but WOW!

I should add: don't touch it. Don't clean it (not that it needs it). Leave everything as is. Don't toss the shoes either.

I only snapped a few pics to try and do some research. I plan on going back tomorrow and take more. I was surprised at the condition to be honest. It shows some age but still looks really good. My grandfather was not a big cyclist but he liked nice things so when ever he bought something it had to be quality. Here is a pic of the seat.

Your grandfather lives/lived in the NYC area? 6 day track racing was big in the NY/NJ area in the first half of the 20th Century.

Are you asking the value out of curiosity, or are you planning on selling? If the latter, be sure to do your research, take lots of high quality, high resolution photos (no iPhone pics!), and compose a professional ad.

You'll find lots of information on Drysdale here: https://search.bikelist.org/

You might also consider subscribing to the Classic Rendezvous list and asking for specific information about yours, but be aware that many of the list members won't take kindly so someone simply fishing for a sale. On the other hand, there are probably a few who will attempt to buy the bike from you at a bargain (as would happen anywhere with a rare item). The condition of your grandfather's bike makes it all the more valuable.

I don't know how exactly he came to obtain it seeing as he lived his whole life in North Carolina. I am asking the value because I would like to sell it for my grandmother and surprise her with what I get out of it. She didn't think it was of value so it would be a good surprise if I could get her some money.

I thank you for the information and will be sure to do some research.

If you're in North Carlina near Greensboro, the owner of Cycles De ORO would probably be interested in seeing it and might give you some valuable information. He's also the listmeister of Classic Rendezvous.

If you are looking for information only, I'd recommend creating a throwaway email address and using it to join the ClassicRendezvous email list. Do not use your regular email address because you will be getting a lot of emails from them.

If you are looking to sell, listen to the auchencrow, JunkYardBike, and Picchio Special.

If it were me, I would keep that baby and hang it on a wall. It is spectacular and you won't get rich off of it.

I asked my grandmother and she didn't know where he bought it and she said he had it before they where married which was about 1970. I wish he had other family members alive but he was an only child there is no one else that I could really ask who would know. Trust me I would be interested to find out how he got it.

what kind of Drysdales do you have? do you know anything about the company? if you already have a few perhaps you should be able to tell us about how much it is worth?

I have asked my family members and they all agreed to the sale of the bike. They would not enjoy it as well as a bike enthusiast would.

You should consider coming to the Classic Rendezvous vintage bicycle event in Greensboro in May. You could bring the bike, and a lot of experts and collectors would get to see it. You could very likely arrange a sell there:
