Can anyone identify this Cinelli?

Hey guys,

Came across this guy selling what looks to be a 90s (?) cinelli, with Columbus Genius tubing and shimano 105 parts on it. He's slow on getting back to emails, and I don't know the model name. Before making the trip to see it, I'd like to know if it's a decent frame and what would be a rough value. Apologies for the low quality photo; it's the only one he has.

It appears to be a mid-1990s Cinelli Genius Strada or at least that 's what they were called in Canada. Bare frames sold for about $1500 CDN or $900 US, circa 1996. By that time, Cinelli prestige had suffered quite a bit. Comparable frames by DeRosa were selling for about 30% more. Since you're in Italy, I wouldn't have any idea of local market value.

I didn't know that about the prestige, thanks T-Mar. Can you tell me why? He wants 200 for it.

200 Euros? If so, that's about $275 US according to on-line converters. That would be a bargain in any market in North America, provided it is in good cosmetic and mechanical condition.

Personally, I feel the Cinelli reputation is tied very closely to Cino. As the links with Cino slowly dissolved, so too did the reputation. The first break was the sale of the company to Columbo. Had it been handed down to his son, the family tie would still be there. Then they started new designs which had no ties to Cino's. Then it got absorbed by a large corporation. On top that, they never sponsored a major pro team to keep the name in front of the public. It's a lot different than a brand like Colnago or Eddy Merckx, where the namesake is still involved and they sponsor pro teams.

That makes sense. Thanks, T-Mar. I thought it sounded like good value too. Think I'll go check it out.
