Friends KHS Tri Athlete
A friend from work was given this KHS TriAthlete and it's way too big for him. I told him I might be interested, but don't want to overpay. I'd love some insights into what would be a fair price; he is a friend after all.
Unsure as to its age, but based on Suntour components I'd figure late 80s? Looks like the RD is a more recent replacement.

Cyclone Mk-II with top mounted, non-idexed shifters would be 1981-1986. Bicycle comanies started targeting triathletes circa 1983 and KHS cut a licensing deal with John Howard in 1985. It doesn't appear to be the John Howard version, so I'm going to say 1983-1984. If you can get the serial number, I may be able to definitively identify the year.
These are quite nice bicycles. If I'm right about the year, it should be Reynolds 531 tubing. Original price in 1984 was $550 US. Clipless pedals are a nice bonus. Little wear on the chainrings so, I'm assuming it's in good overall mechanical condition, though the chain looks a bit rusty and I assume it's just from sitting. A bit dirty, but should clean up nice. Stem and post look like they may be dangerously beyond their insertion marks.
I don't know what your market is like but in my region this would be about $175 at this time of year, with the replacement pedals. Definitely would be bring over $200 in a couple of months, possibly up to $300 in the right market.

nice looking bike. if someone gave it to him and he does not want/need it I would think he would be happy with $175-200 especially if he is not a cyclist.
