I came across this Reynolds 531 Raleigh Carlton Competition frame and fork (maybe a '76? I'm not sure) for $150. The paint is rough, but from the picture the chrome looks good. Is that a fair price? Looks like there could be some rust on it, should I be concerned? I'd obviously be repainting it (and re-decaling it). Anything else I should think about?

I would ask for a photo taken directly from the back so you can check the stays and drops and perhaps one shot in the BB shell to see how much water was napping in there. I think the price is high for rough paint on a competition. There is a lot of metal showing on that frame.

I think that price is a bit high for a frame in that condition. If you are not in a rush, I'm pretty confident that you could find a much nicer example for same or better pricing.

Lots of nice vintage frames in better condition, for the same price, can be had on ebay. $100 for that frame would sit better if I was looking to buy it.

Yeah. I'm out. I don't see those old raleighs around here very often so I was kinda excited to see a frame I could restore. But I'd rather find something in good condition. And I'm in no hurry to take my bike apart again and rebuild
