Hi all - First post here.

I picked up a 70's Peugeot 10-speed a little while back, and have just finished fully servicing it. Since this is the first Peugeot for me, I'm not really in tune with the brand. Any help identifying the age/model would be greatly appreciated. The wheels are 700c(Maillard hubs), Mafac brakeset, Simplex derailleurs.

So it looks like model is the 'super sport'. Any way to decipher the exact year on old Peugeots?

Look on the derailleur cage (on the side that faces the spokes). I have a 70s Peugeot and the date was stamped right there on the derailler. Or look along the wheels for a date.

Thanks for the reply, Andrew. No luck on the rear derailleur cage, but the hubs had some numbers stamped in them - front says 81; rear says 84. The front wheel appears to be original, rear has been replaced at some point. Rear hub is a Maillard, but maybe not the original one that came with this bike. I'm going to go with '81.

Decals suggest '79-83.
"Super Sport" would peg it as a U09 ( "Sport" would indicate U08)

Can't wait to get it out tomorrow and see how it rides. It's a touch big though, so I'll probably end up selling this one.

Found this ad from the 1981 Peugeot catalog(french): retropeugeot.com

That is the closest photo I have found of the bike - mine doesn't have frame pump notches. I wasn't able to find one like mine in the USA catalogs. The guy I purchased it from, mentioned that he bought it used while in Europe.

Maybe it's a european model PH-8???

Gonna get some better photos of it today.

The rear hub was likely changed out due to the fact that there have been some issues with the Helicomatic hubs. In any case, it is a very nice looking Peugeot and looks close to my size. I sold my only Peugeot a couple of years ago and have been missing it since. It wasn't anything special, a red P-8 from 1982, but it had a terrific ride quality.

You're probably right - it still has a Maillard rear hub, but from what I can tell, it is not a Helicomatic version. Thanks for the compliment on it. If it were only a 54cm. I can ride it fine, but I have to run the saddle pretty much slammed.
