1984 Raleigh Competition
Hey All,
My neighbor just put in a "free pile" on the curb a Surly Karate set up as a single speed and a 1984 Raleigh Competition with 24" frame (claim to fame - exact same bike Kevin Bacon rode in the mid 80's movie Quicksilver). The bike is in remarkably good shape - very few scratches, virtually no rust, chrome looks great, decals look great, Shimano 105 components. These were her husbands and there were some problems there and he is no longer around and looks like she wanted to purge his stuff - she wanted the bikes gone. So I took them off her hands and asked me to take them (this stuff never happens to me!) Any idea what the Raleigh (or Surly) might be worth?
Thanks, Ben

I feel bad for the husband...those are some nice bikes. (who knows, maybe he deserves it).
No idea on the Surly, check ebay completed listings.
Re. the Raleigh - Is that generation Reynolds 531 or Raleigh 555 or whatever? Either way it is probably worth around $300 or maybe a little more if it's in as nice condition as it looks and you have a healthy craigslist market.
