Value of an 80s Cannondale Fixed Gear Conversion
I have never bought, sold or even looked at the prices of fixed gear bikes so I'm clueless about the entire market. Is it worth my time to selll it as a complete fixed gear or would it be better to part out?
Long winded post and very hypothetical so be warned.
I had a spare 80's Cannondale frame lying around and I recently received a fixed gear wheel in a trade...you can do the math.
I rode around the block and it was very strange, I think I'll try it out a few times to see if I like it once I'm used to it but I will likely sell the thing if I can get a decent price for it. It currently has an ugly riser stem, red handlebar tape and a cheap triple crank using only the middle ring as that is what I threw on for a test ride. All of that will change if I decide to sell it.
What do you think this thing would be worth (assuming it has a normal quill stem, black bar tape, a decent single speed crankset, regular saddle as I'm keeping the Brooks.). Rear wheel is a no-name hub, decent quality though, with a Surly fixed cog, front wheel is a Dura Ace hub laced to a Mavic tubular rim, not sure if tha would stay or go with the C'dale as I don't ride tubies at all. Red paint is in good shape but shows use.
Wow that's a lot of what-ifs....and to top it off a terrible nighttime iphone picture

your chain looks slack. it is hard to fixie Cdale frames or any bike with vertical drops, you reall should have some type of chain tensioner. as for the wheels I believe it would hard to seel a bike with one clincher and one tubular esp. to the fixie crowd.
you might fair better just selling the frame, and then use the parts on a lowend steel frame with horizontal dropouts.

What she said. Not a fixie guy myself but in these parts ones with a flip-flop hub seem to sell better.

Part it out. They don't really make great fixies and it looks really botched from that perspective. It looks like I'm getting a road bike that doesn't have any road in it so I'm not paying for that, and it doesn't have a bling factor I would look for in a SS, so I'm not paying for that.
