2002 Cannondale CAAD5 R700 Si
I'm not sure if one would classify this bike as vintage, but I wasn't sure which forum to put this in. Anyway I digress...I have been watching this Cannondale on ebay for a few days and its currently at $485 (+ $50 shipping). Do you guys think its worth more than $485 (the bidding is probably going to end up around 525-550). He claims it has low mileage and the pictures he posted shows that it's in immaculate shape. Here are the components. (it also comes with a computer w/ integrated buttons on the handlebars)

Fair price for a nice rider if it fits you. Those may be original tires, so figure on replacing them and the tubes = $70 for decent ones, half that for ones that will not ride as nicely IMHO.

Looks like it will end up higher than anticipated if we are looking at the same auction. I was looking for a Cdale a few months back for a modern go fast back and found they go for more than expected in good shape. I was looking at 3-4 year old CAAD 8 or 9. WAY too much for me so ended up with a CAAD 7.
I would ask myself if a triple crank is what I want, is it your size? Have you riden a Cdale? Is it what you want? Personally I don't want a triple crank on this kind of bike but YMMV. To try and answer your question.. I have seen much newer Cdales on Craigs, even a 2009 CAAD 9 for a little more than what this bike might sell for. They might be a CAAD 9 with lower components, like Tiagra but it seems a lot of people are paying for the frame and upgrade the parts and wheels over time. If you are in a smaller market you may not find too many on CL so if that is the case and you have the cash than maybe it's what you want. There is a ton of Cdale love over on the road forum. You might ask there, quickly.. You don't say where you are located or if you have scoured your local CL. Good thing about CL is you can ride it first and decide if you like it. Good luck and BTW I really like mine, for aluminum anyway. |
your right it's going to be a little more than I anticipated...as for my very local LBS, they carry just specialized and the average cost of a bike there is around 1500-2000, which is way out of my range. I'm located in the north country of NY (Plattsburgh to be specific) and I've also checked Burlington, but nothing really I'm interested, EMS has like a bunch of Jamis and stuff. I also want to pick this bike up for upgrading as well. I was looking at upgrading the group set to maybe Campagnolo Veloce or make the whole groupset Shimano 105.
The size seems fine to me...I'm close to 6'0" with a 32-33" inseam, which puts at a 58 cm. I'm not thrilled at it being a triple, but I'm not a seasoned vet (been riding fixies for 2 years, but thats about it) and I've heard triples are good for beginners especially around hilly areas, which is where I will be during the summer and next year. Plus I can always upgrade to a compact or something. |
If you have that many hills then a triple might just be the ticket and the left shifter/FD combo can be adjusted to handle a double crank later on. I believe a 58cm will be the right size. I am 6'1" and got a 58 since a bigger frame would have a top tube that is WAY too long for me.
I hope you have some sniping software or sit and wait for the last 10 seconds to bid. Good luck!!! |
