Is this old Claud Butler bike worth $400 ??

I picked this Claud Butler Olympic Sprint bike up a few days ago and I don't think I'm going to be into single-gear bikes or running around a track. I've been offered $400 for it. Comes with a spare wheel set, a Mavic front with Campy hub and a Fiamme rear with a Milremo hub with a fixed sprocket on each end. The tubular tires are totally shot but the rims are OK. Should I flog it for the $400 ??

Yes. It's pretty. It's also a straight-gauge frame. It also has track rear forks.
You could try parting it out, as the frame might do well on its own. But that's extra work.

If what fits ?? I'm really not much of a collector, but the guy who wants it is. I am thinking that I could get a nice 10-speed road bike with the money.

I'm selling this bike, not buying it. I just want to know if $400 is a reasonable price.

Like I said, I'm not into the track-bike or fixie scene and I really don't think I would get much use out of it.

Like I said - flip it. You're maybe not getting top coin, but your not getting ripped off, either. It's a fair price, IMO.

I think it might end up back on Craigslist for a lot more than $400. But a quick $300 profit is nothing to sneeze at....

I bet that the frame alone would bring close to that on Ebay. Absolutely stunning. Do you think that it's original paint?

Yes. The bike is all original. I opened up one of the tubular tires and it was date stamped 1971. The bike was taken out of use in the 1970s and stored indoors by an unusual person. It is going to a good home...
