1993 Giant Kronos - sell whole or part out?

Hi everyone,

Bought this bike new in 1993 and plowed ungodly sums of money into it (was my first 'real' bike, didn't know better). It's been hanging my basement as I marched toward middle age (I'm 48) and hasn't seen any real mileage for 15 years. I had the frame painted by a shop in Colorado in the late 90s (they put the Trek decals on it) and it's gorgeous. And while everything except the Exage sidepull brakes and frame have been upgraded, I'm just wondering if it's worth selling whole, or parting out.

The wheels are Mavic Open4CDs, cranks are 600, bars and stem are nice but I forget the brands. Shifts, rides and looks flawless.

Breaks my heart to sell it, but, I'm trying to get back in the game with a Trek hybrid, either a 7300 or 7.3 FX.

Thanks, kj

a shop painted your bike and put Trek decals on it? that is too bad. now you have a odd bike and while every thinks Treks are king of the heap many poo poo Giants and lowend brand.

the worst part is the paint makes it look like a late '80s midlevel trek so the value may be lower than what a '93 Giant may get. upgrades aside it is still 18 yo bike and again looking like a lowend trek it may only brinf about $200

I am nmot a fan of parting out but since this is a bast***, OH can you use that whole word here?, I would think you may get more that way.

PS whay not ride it? dump those goofy TT bars put the shifters where they belong and enjoy riding it.

Kronos was a pretty basic bike. Part outs are best suited when the individual components have a strong following. That frame with the repaint will have minimal value, so the best way to sell it is as a complete bike. Dump the tribars, and put the shifters back on the DTs. Sell the Profile bars separately.

The 105 bits will have minimal value in a part out, wheels have some value, but then you will have a frame with very little value. Myself, I would just return it to standard road bike orientation and sell it.
