Could this be worth the asking price of 450? I ask because I have one just like it-only smaller. Sorry, I don't know how to paste the ad here. Nishiki Professional.

Just looking at the picture, it appears to be a very well cared for early 70s Nishiki Pro. You never see those pop up in my area. Its probably priced high, but I have to admit, I'd be tempted.

OK, I give up. What is it?

I found the ad on the CL here: https://www.american.com/archive/2011...f-sunk-capital

The lugwork on the frame is nice, though it doesn't say what it's made out of. I would think if it was Cro-Moly/Double-Butted, it would say so. Good crankset (the Mighty Compe is a high-quality copy of the Campagnolo Record). Other than that, eh. Entry-level Dia-Compe brakes, standard levers, indifferent Japanese running gear (nice Bar-Con shifters, though). I would think the asking price is way high.

More information

I am informed that the Nishiki Pro had a chro-moly double-butted frame. (Odd that there's no label saying that, but oh well...) That would fit with the quality of the lugwork. Based on that info, the bike could be worth the asking price.

I still say it's a curious mix of component quality level. The brakes are very, very ordinary; the crankset is quite fine; the wheels spec exactly the same as a Fuji S10-S, a mass market bike; the rear derailleur is nice, the front pretty ordinary (a top normal design; pulling the cable pushes the chain to the smaller chainwheel, slackening it has the spring return it to the large chainwheel). As the owner admits, the Avocet seat is not original; the bike originally had a leather copy of the Brooks.

It should be a nice ride, and the frame work *is* pretty.
