What is a Trek 360 Worth?
 

Hey,
I went garage sailing today. I came across a late 80s trek 360. Flat tires, rusted chain, but very good body condition. The bike was pretty small for me (I am 6 foot). The horizontal tube was at least 1.5 inches from where my legs meet. They are looking for $100, but they said they would accept $75. Is it worth it? I want to get new tires, tubes, and a chain and sell it. The bike looks like this:

Without pics I can't judge condition but assuming it is clean, it's worth ~ $250-300 in serviced ready to ride condition.
Nice dbl butted CrMo TT frame, Suntour Alpha DRs (crummy indexing but great w/ friction)

I didnt take any pics. Otherwise I would post them. But the chain was rusty. The tires were flat. The brakes worked. there seemed to be a little rust on the front derailer. But the frame is in really good shape.

These are the kind of bikes I wish I could snag at garage sales here. Of course they would be scarfed up in a NY minute for $75.

so you are saying I should do it then? Do you think I could potentially make a profit off of this if I give it some tlc, tubes & tires, and a chain?

Only if you have the time/space/aptitude/interest/tools/access to low cost parts/ and ability to do the entire rehab yourself. Pay a shop to do the work for you, and the repair bill will exceed the value of the bike.

Myself, I do all the repair work, so I would jump all over that Trek, assuming the frame was damage free and the paint was good. +1 To below, in my market, I do not get such strong prices on the finished product. A lower end steel Trek typically brings $200, maybe $225 max, in pristine, ready to ride condition.

That's nuts (not you, your market :p). The equipment is lackluster and it doesn't have the 531 aura.

In spring I wasn't getting any bites on my 400 at $250 over CL. Ended up selling it at a LBS swap for $200, 20% to the shop.

Made my money back, profited only in the season I rode it and the space I freed up.

My market has been in a total nose dive for a while, but steel Treks are possibly the one bright spot.
They still are sought after, and still command good prices. (Take a look at the prices for them on Jaxed around the country: The Trek 360 in True Temper actually does pretty well, and bikes that are completely cleaned and rehab'd go for a slight premium.)
