Used Seven Alaris Titanium
Could really use some input from the group. Not sure if a bike from 2003 qualifies as "Classic and Vintage"...but here goes anyway. I did post this question in another thread and was told I was in the wrong place.
My brother-in-law is willing to part with his Seven Alaris Titanium (built end of 2003). It was custom built for him and we are almost identical in size (height, weight, inseam..ok, he's better looking than I am). But he's asking me to set a fair price. Maybe someone out there has a better handle on this stuff and can give me a ballpark price. Here's the basic rundown:
Seven Alaris Titanium (Integrity 325 tubing)
Full Ultegra setup, including wheels
Easton EC50 carbon fork
Immaculate condition; never raced; never crashed
I wouldn't even think about it if we weren't so closely sized. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Rough rule of thumb is somewhere around 40% to 50% of MSRP. Since the condition is really nice, maybe the high end of that scale, closer to 50%. Ask him what he paid for it originally, or google it and you will find the MSRP for that model.
Make sure the shifters work flawlessly. Replacement shifters are costly, and being 8 years old, they may not function crisply. I have had some poor luck with Ultegra of that age when the bike has set idle.

Check used Ti bikes on ebay, they tend to go for around my guesstimate. The ones with issues start around $900 (not complete, stuff doesn't work, whatever).
At the $1300 pricepoint, on a new bike you are looking at a Tiagra bike (maybe 105), with an aluminum frame. No way would it be close to this bike. But being 8 years old, you would expect a sizable discount. And again, everything needs to work perfectly, otherwise, a further discount is in order (nine speed replacement STI is available, but not Ultegra).
1998 Seven Ti bike (five years older), with more desirable Campy components and high end wheels, sold for $2200
https://cgi.ebay.com/Seven-Cycles-Odo...item2564b6c96d
Kind of scraped up 1999 Litespeed, all Ultegra, $1304
https://cgi.ebay.com/Litespeed-Siena-...item256500a1d2
Search ebay completed auctions, and you will find plenty to compare to (do not limit yourself to Seven, not many of them on there).

You are really buying the frame, which is both a high quality build and material. Ultegra is good stuff and should last a long time, easy to maintain/replace or upgrade over time, but the main thing is the nice frame and fork. 1K for the complete bike is a fair deal I think.
