Chicago Made Schwinn LeTour (What's It Worth Rehabbed)

When I saw the Craigslist listing, I couldn't tell by the poor photograph if the bike was better quality LeTour, but I decided to call anyhow. When I arrived, I could see that it was a "Chicago" made LeTour in very good condition. I will have have to change the handlebars and brake levers, but otherwise, it should make a great bike. In a rehabbed condition (lubed, new cables, etc), what would this bike be worth? As always, your help is appreciated!

Looks like a 1988 LeTour. Chicago factory closed in 1982. If US made, its a Greenville, MS bike. Schwinn Chicago headbadge just means they maintained a headquarters office in Chicago. Pretty deceiving. A lot of parts will be needed to bring that bike around. Hopefully you have a nice parts bin.

Fully rehabbed, around here, $225 to $250 max.

Thanks Thrifty Bill!

Your help and knowledge is greatly appreciated! I did look in the catalogs, and it is a 1988 LeTour. I agree, pretty deceptive; but it is a nice bike.

I should make a nice return on the bike. Thanks for your evaluation.

I'm a fan of the mid-to-late '80s Schwinns. Whether Columbus Tenax or 4130 CR-MO, they were pretty lightweight and responsive. Should bring you $250.00 easily in your market.

Thanks Teon!

Thanks TugaDude for your evaluation! I listed it on CL this morning. Unfortunately, the Detroit area is a hard sell lately, but hopefully, your assessment will be on the mark. Thanks again.

Looks good I don't need a bike, but $200 would be tempting (and I am cheap, but I love my 1987 Le Tour) if its in as good of shape as I imagine from the pics. Nice work.

I would think you'd have no problem selling it for 200-250. Too bad you don't live where I do, as you could probably easily get $300-325 for it here....maybe more, especially in that condition. (ratty condition Varsity Schwinns go for 200+ here)

And it would probably sell in 1-2 days, tops.

Heck, I'd jump all over it for the price you're asking if I didn't already have something very similar. Heck, even with shipping to get it here, I could probably still make a little money just flipping it here.

(Problem is, if it fit me I would keep it.....lol)

Thanks Teon!

Unfortunately, I have had no serious responses after two days, but it is still early. I listed it for $240. When it sells, I'll post the final price.

Geez......no responses after 2 days??? Here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, at $240, in that kind of beautiful shape, it would have lasted all of about 15 minutes.....lol.

That's a great price, imo......but I am biased because of what I see on CL around here. Wish I had an extra $200+ and shipping cost burning a hole in my pocket, as I would take that off your hands in a heartbeat.....please don't tell me it's 58-60cm.

OT, I'm planning on doing similar to my traveler on the front handlebars.....replacing the stock brake levers with aero style cane creeks, and also replacing my stupid black stem with a silver nitto technomic and a nitto b177 handlebar. Still, I really like how you cleaned that thing up and put some proper handlebars on it. Very nicely done without going overboard.

Yea, ya sure can't tell that I'm a Schwinn fan, huh?.....lol

Thanks Teon! So far, I have had no serious offers--not even a lowball offer, but it is all good! With the poor economy in the Detroit area, it may take a little longer, but it will eventually sell for a good price.

Thanks Rangerover! The bike will eventually sell, but "easily" part is in question. Thanks for your feedback on price and looks.

When it sells, I'll post the selling price.

After a few weeks of no interest, I was able to sell the LeTour. It took longer than expected, but I'm glad it sold. Interestingly, once the heat wave broke, I had 5+ people interested in the bike. I sold it for $$220. The young man was excited to buy it.

Thanks to everyone for your input!

Market has really opened up around here as well. Sold more bikes in the last four weeks, than I sold in the prior four months.
