Schwinn Traveler

Picked it up for $12 at a garage sale; any thoughts on how I can find out more about it? What year it is, possible worth?

Decals look to be early 80s. Follow the link above and check your serial # for the exact year. In my area women's bikes, hold about 1/2 the value or less than that of a similar men's frame. Cleaned, tuned, ready to ride, with new bar tape, I'd be lucky to get $60 for it. It could bring significantly more in a larger market however. Browse you local craigslist for similar bikes and what they are priced at.

+1 While a good buy, the market value totally refurbished, here in Hooterville, is not much. I sold one just like it fully refurbished for $90. Even though I only paid $5 for the bike, add the cost of new tires, cables, housings, tubes, brake pads, bearings and grease, and you can see I didn't do too hot on that sale. Slightly better than breakeven, and zero for my time spent. But I enjoyed working on it.

Tires on yours look OK, so that is a savings on the rehab.

But in certain hot markets, just about anything sells for $200.

So depending on the amount of work needed (and who does the work), it could be a pretty good deal as a keeper.

If you do not have the time/aptitude/tools/interest/access to parts to refurbish it, you would do well just resellilng it as is. Could probably get $50 for it as it sits (clean it up, put air in the tires). Not a bad return on a $12 investment.
