77' Raleigh Touring bike for 30-40 bucks
My friend hit me up she said she has a Raleigh touring bike from 77, she said it needs work but for that price it doesn't matter. would anybody know what model it might be? i've looked through a lot of the catalogs but i'm not finding anything. This would be my first Raleigh project. I'm going later tonight to get it. What should i expect, it's been out in the side yard for years most likely. Did some Raleigh models from this era come with decent components or garbage?

Need the following:
A model name is the minimal amount of additional information we will need.
Pictures of the chain wheel side, and whatever other pictures you can add to show condition.
It may not be a true touring bike, but we will be able to tell by the model name and photos.
For your own research, take a look at this website....

A mild warning ... "free" and "inexpensive" can be anything but if you take it to a bike shop to be redone. DIY + heavily discounted parts online (or scavenged) are kind of the only way to go when a bike may need alot of work. Otherwise, a reasonably more expensive bike in very good condition is a better deal. 1977 was when they started to use decent SunTour components with the Raleigh name on them.

Thanks i checked it, Raleigh tourist 77 i believe, terrible condition rims were caked with rust but it looked like a cool bike forsure. Stermy Archer hub, crazy brake system i would have gotten it if the condition was a lot better but i don't need all that work just for that, if it was a road bike it would be a different story might be worth saving.

That's not a bad price for a Tourist to somebody who is looking for one. It does have 28" rims, rod brakes, and is heavy as H@&%! If it isn't what your interested in, no loss. Sounds like quite a project.

If the SA hub was in decent condition you could possibly part it out for more than the 30-40.

yeah but then i would have the skeleton of this old Raleigh in my yard. I know they could go for that much it's just not worth the time for me.
