Peugeot PSN-10 - Cerise' condition
 

I bought this bike a few months back and it looked dirty ... but otherwise brand new. The owner said "I know for a fact I haven't ridden it in 13 years" ... it's been in his climate controlled garage rafters since he moved to town. I bet he didn't ride it 300 miles before then. It came with the original tires. I've simply re-greased everything and tuned it.

Wondering what a bike like this would go for? It's slightly small for me. I need a solid 57cm and this is a 22' and seems slightly smaller. Like a 55cm. I've ridden it 100 miles or so and it's a great ride.

Where are you located? Nice bike, in really good condition. Definitely has good value, just a matter of location.

really nice find. I have to ask what you paid? Here in NY, given the exceptional condition, definitely over 500.

Determining Vintage Bicycle Value is a tricky business, to say the least. Things like size of the bicycle, time of year and location, all impact the final value dramatically. So too do marketing skills.

I have sold identical bicycles (Torpado) for between $175 and $1225 - identical except for color. Your bicycle, in a good market and presented well, will fetch $500+, without too much difficulty.

Nice bicycle, by the way, and I believe you about the ride quality. I have owned a few high end Peugeots, including a high end Peugeot mountain bicycle, and all have impressed me in the ride quality department, not to mention their good looks.

Since this thread is almost a year old I am sure the OP already sold it. It is a beautiful bike though. I sometimes forget Peugeot sold such nice bikes here in the US

I used to work in a shop where we mainly sold Peugeots. The finish level wasn't always the best ( the finish level is very good, though, on the bike in the pictures) but the bikes were, by and large, built right. The parts were solid (the delrin derailleurs were flaky and tend to melt, though). The Normandy high flange hubs that came on so many of the bikes were pretty reasonable for the day. Peugeots tended to have good wheelsets (this bike certainly does). A lot of manufacturers will short you on the rims and wheels are where you tend to have problems first on a bike for obvious reasons. I've been keeping my eye out for a PX-10, a UO-10, or a VX-40 (which I think was one of the coolest 3 speeds ever imported into the US). But then you can never have too many bikes or too many Peugeots, :thumb:

Actually, I liked the quality of the paintjobs on 80's peugeot. especially when they had lots of bikes in pearl white in the first half of the 80's. What was not so good was their lugwork prep and brazing. I saw lots of Peugeots on the dealer's floor back then with gaps and blobs at most of their lug/tube seams. I even saw some lug misalignment and lug points that have been ground/dressed uneven so that the points are not centered to the tubes. I've also seen lug points that are almost missing as they ground it to a blunt stub at the factory. I did find good ones amongst the bad ones though as I found my PSV amongst a gaggle of badly done PSVs and PGNs, but I had to wait for a second delivery of PSVs for the season to the dealership to find it. The lugs and brazing on my PSV are all nice, straight and clean with nice even points too. It must have been done by their best brazier in the factory or something......

In any case, while I agree that the finish level on Peugeots were not as good as they could be, they were technically well made bikes with very few warranty returns (at least in my experience working with a top 100 BD that sold mainly Peugeots).

I traded this bike to Vic's Classic bikes (http://vicsclassicbikes.com/) in a multi part trade that ultimately got me a 1973 Schwinn World Voyageur (will do a build post soon on this bike). Check with Vic ... he may still have the bike for sale. The PSN10 was a very sleek and nice bike. I really miss it but it was just too small for me to ride often and enjoy it. I'd love to find another similar model in the 23" range.

What's the difference between this bike and the Triathlon of the same vintage and frame material? Any difference in geometry?

Exact same geometry and SV980 tubing. Triathlon had a Sachs-Huret New Success groupset (as opposed to Campy Victory) and an extra bottle cage mount under the down tube. At least that's how it was in '86.

I was just going to say that it looks exactly like my '85 Triathlon, without the mount under the down tube. Beautiful bikes!

I've been following this bike for a couple of months now. It is located in Tampa but the guy wants too much. He also charges $140 for shipping. I've seen it advertised as high as $600. The last time I looked it was advertised for $275. It is getting close to my price range, but for that kind of money, I want better quality.

That's actually a very good buy at $275, but like you noted, the shipping is what kills it. It's pretty much at market value if the shipping is factored in.....but then again, shipping is usually not included on bike deals...
