Miele Lupa

There's a Miele Lupa road bike listed in a city near me. Owner is asking $500. Frame is Columbus Cromor. 105 group set. Don't know about the wheels. It's probably late 80s to early 90s.

Opinions on the Lupa model itself and asking price greatly appreciated. I would offer lower, but not sure how much. My limited research suggests it's a mid-level bike and probably sold new for $700-$800. I'm thinking it would have to be mint to be worth what he's asking.

That bike might get close to $500 if it were in Toronto, but if you're in the states, where demand for Miele bike is pretty low, I'd offer $350 and see what happens. That model does not command $500.

I can't imagine getting anywhere near that price in the SC midlands. Unfortunately, owner may not be ready for reality yet. I've sold quite a few nice 105 bikes from that era in the upstate (a better market) for around $300.

+1 Miele brand will get a low response as well.

Note, Charleston market seems pretty decent, but even there, I don't see it selling (sold two bikes in the last 3 weeks to buyers from Charleston, who drove up to the upstate to get a bike)...

He's re-listed the bike. The asking price is now $600.

I have owned lots of Miele bicycles over the years and still have one very rare one tucked away in The Old Shed. They are, generally, good bicycles but the one mentioned by the OP is nothing special.

Vintage Bicycle Value, of course, depends on many things, and some have nothing to do with the bicycle itself. Size, location, condition, model and the like all play an important part in defining final value.

$600 for a Lupa. I would not pay that much in my area. However, in Toronto or some of the other eastern cities of Canada, perhaps it will go for that, but I doubt it. Three hundred would seem more reasonable at this time of year.

Hope that is a help.

Yes. Thanks, Randy and Thrifty Bill. I thought his price was too high to begin with for a mid-range model. I just can't believe he raised the asking price! The components appear to be a mismatch of stuff - 105 derailleurs and SR crank. Haven't asked about the wheels. His ad indicates it has brifters, but I seriously doubt that when the photo clearly shows non-aero brake levers, the kind where the cable comes out the top.
