Eddy Merckx or is it?

Guy locally is selling what he claims to be an vintage Eddy Merckx with campy components...

However the bike has no decals and may have been repainted... it does have a merckx fork.

Any idea on value... link to add is below

https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/bik/2593786403.html

He is asking $850... my question is this truely an Eddy Merckx frame and can it actually be verified. If so what is it worth if not... same question.

I'll take your word for it that the fork has the "EB" emblem on it, I cannot tell from the photos.

Without a serial number, there is no real way to know but I don't see any braze-ons on the down tube or on the seat stay so it must be pretty old, possibly early '70s or older.

Can you ask the seller for more photos?

I am not an expert, this is just my opinion. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on Merckx bikes will chime in.

It's hard to put a high value on something that can not be verified. The Campy components make it worth a bit, but I don't think you should pay full boat for it. If I was looking at it, I doubt I would pay more than a couple hundred.

Here is a known bike for reference. If I was going to pay 600-800 dollars for a bike, I want to make sure I am getting what I pay for.

The Eddy Merckx factory started in 1978, before that other bikes were branded as 'Eddy Merckx', these did not have engravings.
So the frame in fork do not match at least. IMO, only the fork is Eddy Merckx, not the frame.

Wouldn't a Merckx that old have a flat top fork crown?

All excellent information... confirming what I suspected. I think I'm in the same camp as jeepr... I only want to pay a couple of hundred for it since it can't be verified and I'm mainly interested in the campy components. I think this is going to be a hard sell unless the seller can convince someone it truely is a Merckx frame.

I'll see if I can't get more pictures.

Thanks

Ian

The fork is from an Eddy. The frame is not.

There is a small chance this is an eddy Merckx branded bike from Falcon, but where is the original fork? Check the threading.
