2009 Giant 3 Avail
I've found a 2009 Giant 3 Avail on Craigslist. Claims to be well maintained, as the woman's husband is a cycling enthusiast and bike mechanic. Low mileage, I believe. I offered $300 and she countered with $400. Is this a good deal? Is this a good entry-level road bike? Any important questions I should ask when test riding?
Thanks for your help! |
Although this section is for classic and vintage bikes, I would like to help.
In my opinion, $400 may be a good price but I wouldn't pay it. $300 is more reasonable. If I recall, new models go for $750ish. The second owner doesn't receive the benefit of the warranty on the frame. For me, I would want to get less than 1/2 the value of a new bike (check with your shop--they may have one on closeout). If the bike has been ridden hard, it may need a new chain and cassette. These items could increase your cost by $50-70 (not including labor). I would stick to $300, and if they decline, save your money over the winter for a new one. |
Thanks for the advice!
And sorry, I posted here because I thought this was where you posted for any bike you wanted pricing info on. |
Reasonable deal. Is that a good entry bike? Depends on the rider, what they are looking for, etc.
+1 Not classic, not vintage, might want to try the road forum. |
The shop in which I work had the 2011 Giant Avail 3 on closeout for $630 (list is $790).
