Hi,
This bike is 52cm and from what I can tell has full Campagnolo Athena - I think dating to late 1980s. It is rideable - thought the tires especially the back will want replacing soon. I'm thinking of eBaying it as my girlfriend is not interested in it (as I'd hoped).

From what I understand Miele were decent bikes. This one has some scrapes here and there as can be seen in pics and the chrome fork has some issues with it flaking off. Otherwise not bad.

Thoughts on a value? I'm going to have a few posts of pics of this to follow.

I actually think you did well, posting a lot of good pictures. Miele is a Canada-based manufacturer. I've seen decent Mieles and great ones. This seems to be on the upper end. Columbus SL is good and the Campagnolo parts look clean. Not sure if the group they belong to is Athena (they all look the same to me) but you should be able to sell it for a good amount. Hot market $300-$400 (small size helps) and cold market $250-$300+. eBay will probably net you a higher overall value but it's unpredictable sometimes.

Unfortunately I've never heard of the make and don't often see bikes with Campy, so I cannot give an estimate on its value.

i just picked up a miele alfa yesterday at a garage sale - 55 dolla - i couldnt holla
speaking of - i want to keep it - but cant help wondering if a nice profit could be made
no campy on mine though - shimano

as for your bike - a brand like this - its so hard to put a value on
you almost have to start by evaluating components
i could imagine several of my nj flippers would try to sell it on CL
for $500+ though - what would they get? anyones guess

I've looked at this a few times, but as others will tell you I am no good at valuing bikes . this is a beautiful bike, SL frame beautiful Campi Athena, and not that ugly Ergo/DP/black sleleton crap either! it ;looks very clean and well kept even the hoods are clean and not little tears or nicks.

The only down side is that Miele is not really a well known brand here in the US. The few I have seen were very well made and I felt they were on par with any of 10spd Drive's offerings (10spd Drive was (is?) an importer of several bike brands in the '80s and early '90s Basso, Tomasso Geurciotti ect) but it just does not carry the same panache'

if this was a DeRosa, Merckxx, or Geurciotti people would be clamoring for! I think Veloh has it right but if I was selling it I would certainly put it on ebay with $1 start and maybe a $500 reserve just to be safe, I think you can always give a second chance offer right guys? Check with some LBS on how much to pack it, and shipping across the country shouldn't be much more than $50



I actually saw a Miele at one of my LBSs a few weeks ago, I think Matrix tubes and Sante', that was going to be for sale soon. I really wanted it but it was way too small.

You have an interesting bike. Most Mieles are tange and have English BBs, almost none come equipped with campy. The "Italian" Models are much harder to find. I live in Montreal and have only seen a few. I'm sure you've searched, but Miele was an Ontario/Quebec based mfg.

I'm not sure who built the "Italian" ones. I doubt it was Marinoni in Quebec, but I've heard Rossin.

Mieles are popular in eastern Canada, and this is a nicer model. However, like Marinoni Jim Miele's bikes don't have much name value outside of their native QC/ON.

Ebay might net you a collector, but you'll probably get the 250-400 that this is worth on your local Craigslist.

I passed on an identical Miele at a local auction; it went at about 300$. That is very close to the bike's likely sale value; you can get a bit more maybe, but it will require an ebay sale. This means fees and potential headaches may eat up any profits above that. 500$ would surprise me.

Almost all Miele racing models used Columbus tubing. The Tange (and Ishiwata) frames were restricted primarily to the sports models. The reason the Campgnolo equipped racing models are harder to find is because most customers bought the better performing Shimano equipped models. Miele went into wide distribution at the same time as indexed shifting was catching on and Camapgnolo's Syncro was much inferior to Shimano's SIS.

Which brings us back to the OP's bicycle. The major non-cosmetic issue is the Syncro. It's finicky to say the least. Be prepared to run it primarily in friction mode, unless you're a competent mechanic.

This particular model appears to be circa 1990. Original price was $975 and it was an upper, mid-range model. In my area, it would sell for about $225-$250, with winter almost upon us. In the spring, it would fetch about $300-$325.

+! Depends where you live. Around here, the Miele name does not get recognition, so parted out on ebay would yield more than sold complete. Now if you are in Canada, there is a lot more recognition of that brand, so it could bring more.

Good to very good parts, on a higher end frame, in a desirable size.

Oh, and I think if you were trying to get the most out of it, parting it out will be your best bet. Although it would be sad to see such a nice bike torn apart.

Everyone thanks for the responses. This did go on eBay for $380. The biggest thing I learned was how to pack a bike for shipment. I invested quite a bit of time in that. In retrospect I sort of wish I hadn't sold it. Oh, well. It was a nice bike. And this was a good learning experience.
