C-Record equipped Merckx 753
So I'm trying to decide on how much to offer for this:

I don't need it, but I want it
What's a fair but none too extravagant price to offer. It's 753 tubing, not sure if that's 753R or otherwise. Looks to be almost all C-Record (purty 1st gen derailleur etc), brake levers are probably Veloce, shifters are Simplex retrofriction.
It's a 59cm which would fit me to a T.

It seems like if you paid $1,000 US or less, you would be getting a good deal. Frame looks in pretty good shape and I understand the 753 Merckx is rare. That bike could be worth as much as $1500 or so.

Since you are in France, offer 300 euros and see what happens. If the seller is offended at the offer, go to 500, still a good deal for you both.

That's a big bike. Looks good but are the wheels different? I paid $500 for a Strada frame so I'd go maybe $750 to $1,000.

I think these are very low ball numbers - I think $1,000 is a very good deal with the parts, even if a slight frankenstein, and that you'd be looking at over 1500 with a part out. I have to think anything under 1200 is a good deal and anything under 1500 is "fair".
I wouldn't even waste my time negotiating or responding to someone who offered 500 euros.

...and wondering if that's a respray (kind of odd color/decal color combo) and really 753. The 753 frames I've seen have a different seat lug/stay/cluster arrangement without the EM logo on it. But then, it's an Eddy and they seem to be more different than alike.
Regardless, even if it's SL it will ride beautifully and agreed that anything between 730 and 1100 Euros is a good deal.
Love the seatpost and panto stem.

My 753 has no EM panto in the seatstay, but mine is a bit weird. I think you might be right though...good eye.

maybe 1000.00 people seem to forget...with c record parts...condition is everything! Road rash cuts the price in half. Just because it is c record does not mean too much if the parts arent in great shape.

I agree but he is in France, I think the market in Europe is very very different for these old bikes. That is slowly changing but they are where we were in 2007 or so, used steel bikes were just beginning to get a bit of a buzz to them.

4ring - keep in mind the serotta people are cheap and bf folks are worse. I think you'll get your 1200 if marketed well. The c record group on that bike looks ok from limited photos, but hard to say. I also think eBay largely eliminates regional pricing differences.

Yup, very true. Complete bikes on eBay don't get as much interest as framesets. If the seller were to put that Merckx frame/fork up on eBay with worldwide shipping, I bet he would get 800$USD for it.
