Bianchi Sport value - 60s maybe
I have a chance to pick this bike up local. It is in really rough shape.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Bian...-/330629086626 Is it worth saving from the dump and putting any money into it? Or is it just a low end model ready to call an end to it's slow death? I can't find any information on it - even the year - and I don't see any pictures with the Bianchi Sport cursive logo on the downtube. |
A lot of times if you can't find information about a bicycle it is because nobody has written or talked about it on the net and therefore may not really be that desirable. From the picture you can see it has cottered cranks, surface rust, poor paint and a lot of other components that need a lot of help. In my opinion, you will put more time and money into it than it will ever be worth in our lifetime. This looks like something I would try to pick up at a garage sale for $5.00 or $10.00 or maybe simply pass on. I wouldn't get it unless you have your heart set on it for some reason. Keep looking, you can find something better.

I doubt anyone will bid on it considering the starting and shipping price. Wait for the auction to end then make a lower offer. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for that (but then again that style of bike isn't my cup of tea), looks like it needs some serious work. You might have trouble convincing the seller to get rid of it at a low cost (some people are really set in how much they think their bikes are worth), but I'd politely give him an offer and say if you change your mind give me a call.

Bianchi made English 3-speeds? Who knew?
|
I'd pay $15 for it but only if I needed a 3 speed with fenders. Don't buy it just because it has the Bianchi name on it.
|
it was listed on CL for a much lower price than the ebay listing and... I bought it for a garage sale price as a winter project. It's a Bianchi Milano Sport made in the late 50s-early 60s. It was Bianchi's response to the Raleigh 3-speeds of the time.
Despite the rust, I can ride the bike and everything works. |
Good luck. That's going to be one hell of a restoration project. You should keep us updated, with pictures.
