1985 Trek 300

Not a great picture, but the only one that I have.

Does anyone have any idea what this is worth. The guy that I'm buying it from is saying that it's all stock, but it has 26" tires, and that doesn't sound right. I'm less worried about stock (I'll know when I get there today) than I am about a general worth...

of course...knowing that it can vary from place to place. It's a relatively hot market where I'm at in the SE...so you can take that into account as well.

Thanks for your help...if you can give me any...

Didn't you say he wanted $100 for it? That sounds like a good price to me, assuming it's in decent shape. I'd expect it to cost more than that, typically. It's very tall, though. Are you 6'-4" or something?

If it fits you, it's a GREAT bike.

For 100. for your rider, yea, all day long!

BUT; It does look big.

I'm surprised that bike is still for sale, since it was posted last night and the price is right(for a rider)...then again, the bike is huge...look at that head-tube.

It doesn't have 26" tires, that's for sure.

edit: posted this morning actually...

I'd say the majority of sellers don't know what they're talking about. Bike does not have 26" wheels.

If you're well over 6' tall $100 is a pretty good price.

Let us know if you got it. I'm looking into a '86 300 Elance myself, negotiating the price. This could be my 2nd bike and my 2nd vintage Trek.

Yeah...I bought it...a great bike...going to clean it up today a bit...and I'll post some pics later...

I may end up flipping it, only because as everyone stated here...it's a big bike (I do have clearance over the bar, but it doesn't feel right, if that makes sense), but I think I can nice it up, and double my money (I got it for 80)...or at least get a buck and a quarter...

How much for the elance?

Congrats and welcome! In my opinion, if you got clearance on the top bar, you should be good. I don't like a lot of clearance on my bikes and I tend to go to larger frames. I have a 34" inseam and my Trek has a 24" frame (almost 61 cm). The one I'm looking now has a 23" frame (58.4 cm), it is still OK for my size, but it will give me I believe around 2" clearance, I'll see it this week.

If it doesn't feel right, try a shorter stem. My 420 is about 62cm and it came with a long stem on top of that. I felt real stretched out until I swapped it out for a shorter one.

+1

An inch or two change in the bar height/reach can make a world of difference. If you can stand over it, chances are it fits you. But the reach might be wrong or the saddle-to-bar height might be off.
