Simplex Seatpost
I just bought a Peugeot competition PKN10 1980-83 yesterday and discovered it had a simplex seat pillar. I don't know much about simplex and their crappy derailleurs but was surprised when i saw this. On all of the catalogs it says the bike came with SR Leprade seatpost for every year. Is this worth some bucks? I saw some on ebay but mine is not in the best shape and i figure nobody wants them for top dollars if it's not cleaned up. I could upload a pic tomorrow. Just wanted to know more about this thing. Sheldon brown claims they are neat and i highly agree! Thanks for the input!

Simplex seat posts with the logo are worth about $50-100 on eBay.
As Sheldon states, they are kind of "neat" and I would keep it if I were you. Insofar as their DR;s being "crappy", that is part truth and part urban legend. The front (Prestige) plastic DR's are subject to failure. The rears are actually pretty good shifters, though the jockey wheels tend to break often. (Easily replaced with Suntour) The 410, 610 and LJ derailleurs don't have as many proplems, but have become expensive. ( |

Yeah i agree as well the rear might have a chance of going back on the bike but i'm going to run a 7 speed in the back, Would the rd be able to handle that last cog?

The derailleurs i have are Simplex SX410TSP for the rear, Simplex SJA102 in the front will these work fine?

I imagine you have the Simplex post that's on my '82 PXN-10. Unfortunately, if you're looking for a valuable part, that ain't the one Sheldon is speaking of - you have the one that looks like an SR LaPrade - and worth about the same.
Works fine, though. |
