there is a shop up here were i live that is selling an 1984 trek 500, pewter with red letters, bike seems to be in ok shape, all original components, they are asking 100 bucks for it, but im a little short on knowledge on these bikes, does that seem fair?

More than fair for just a frame/fork, provided it's in decent shape.

IIRC my buddy Dougenstein paid about $400 (1983) dollars for his 520. The frame broke after about 20 years. He is a tall guy and heavy for any bike. He is not fat. He is just tall and handsome by any standard. He had to learn to make his own frames to get the bike geometry that he needs. Had I bought that 520, it may still be going. Also, Trek made good on the warranty and replace the frame in 200x whenever it broke.

ok i just brought it home this weekend, its a tad small for me, but my buddy is going to ride it.. when i originally saw it at the shop, i thought it was gold, but it turns out it was from a smokers house and he had it in the garage where he smoked...its in "ok" shape.. tires were rotted, and therre were more than a few rust spots... trying to find matching paint to touch up all the rust spots.. sorry no pics yet...
