Help Identifying & Valuating this Colnago.
 

Could use some help identifying and valuating this early 90's? Colnago. Looking at if for the significant other. The seller has presented very little information.

Is the group Chorus? Any idea what model or tubing? Are frames this small worth very much in comparison to more average sizes?

Looks like a sprint to me, but I'm not well versed in Colnago.

Brakes calipers appear to Chorus. Pedals are Victory. Crankset appears to be Victory (or Triomphe). Rear derailleur looks like it could be Victory or Triomphe. Looks like there may be embossing on the stay caps, so I'd leaning towards a Super. Looks more mid to late 1980s to me.

Are supers Columbus SL? If the condition is as good as it looks in the low res photos, how would you value it? $800?

The design of the rear derailleur is not a slant parallelogram, which suggests this bike is from a time before Campy adopted that design approach. A web search tells me (via a post in another forum, not the most reliable source, but close enough for this purpose) that Suntour's patent on the slant parallelogram design expired in 1984, and Campy was late to the party, not introducing their first one until '87-'88. Campy was using the design in all their products by '92. So, based on the rear derailleur and overall look of the components, I'd say this bike is mid to late 80's vintage.

Small frame go cheap, unless they are custom French, then they go big big dollars.

I realize Victoria is a hot market and there is no true off-season, still this bicycle is priced very high. In the mid-1980s, Italian brands with SL frames and Victory groups sold for $900-$1000. Colnago probably retains a higher retail value than the normal, but it's still too high. Of course, all this assumes I'm correct on the identification. You really should try to get better pictures or information.

Interesting, around here, small frame bikes go high, 25% higher than average sized frame bikes, if not more. Had a buyer drive four hours one way to pick up an XS racing bike, three others drive three hours. And this was at prices where I had applied the small bike premium to the pricing.

Owner seems to think it's a Colnago Victory. A quick search suggested this is basically a Super with victory components, which seems consistent with what everyone is suggesting. She also mentioned that it has a 721 on the rear drop out, and couldn't locate any other serial. I wonder if the calipers had been updated. I don't think I would pay asking price, but may try to see how much they are willing to budge.

Oh, much better pics! That's definitely a Victory crankset and the decal does appear to be SL. Friction shifting versus Syncro suggests 1984-1986. Brakeset is an obvious update. Appears to be well kept. No visible chips. Clean sidewalls, hoods, tape and bottle. Lot's of life left on the chainrings. That's usually a pretty good sign of overall wear and tear. Though, I still think the price is much too high.
