Any ideas? 1970s Gienne with Nuovo Record

Hi,
Trying to find out some info on my latest addition. Bought it last week and stripped it down, cleaned and rebuilt it with new cables and grease etc. The bike appears to be all original but I'm not so sure about the wheels (SanRemo Racing Elite tubular rims with Miche hubs and quick releases) Cant find any info anywhere about Gienne... I'm guessing it must be a very small back street type builder?

Haven't heard of this brand but it looks more 1980s to me.

That is a beautiful bike indeed! My guess is 80's also.

- Is that a Columbus tubing label I see on the ST?

Have been doing a little more research, I now beleive that it is from 1978/79. The reason is that it came fitted with a record 4 hole front derailleur with straight style band clamp (I had to borrow the 3 hole one from my Mercian as the cage had been slightly bent out of shape), these were only made for one year according to the velobase website https://www.velobase.com/ViewComponen...6-6aea9e52b615. I will replace it when I can find another 4 hole one.

As for the brakes, they are Universal Mod 77s with matching levers. The cables are that length because the old ones were slightly shorter with much more acute angles, this meant that the cables were under too much tension which was causing the brakes to bind quite badly. By having them longer it means the brakes are much better. (the original cable outers were yellow too)

I have also fitted some new yellow bar tape (just like the original, only not as faded and tatty). Have also got some new yellow leather toe straps on their way (again, like the originals). Hopefully someone will spot this who knows who Gienne were as I would love to get some more info about it!

Alex, you've done a great job bringing the bike back. Welcome to BF, and thanks for sharing pics.

Can't help you with the brand, and a quick search shows a pharma co, lounge co, construction co, and that's just from the first page. Unfortunately, these companies were spread over all of Italy, including Sicily, so that doesn't even help to pin down a location. Good luck in your quest.

Super looking bike. The long cables don't bother me. I don't know anything about it myself, just wanted to chime in and say congrats, it's a beautiful machine.

Quick update: fitted new yellow toe straps, new bar tape and I have shortened the cables slightly. I'm very pleased with it! Roll on L'Eroica 2012!

These are tough, the small Italian builders. Some of them are quite beautiful and constructed on a par with, or even better than, well respected Italian marquees. My best guess on price is somewhere in the 5-800 range. I've got a similar bike, an Alfio Bonanno, and I think that is neighborhood on the value. But I'm not sure, because no one else outside of Italy seems to have one.
