Mavic MA40's

I have some Mavic MA40 clinchers (Red Label) was just wondering how much somebody would pay for this wheelset. I've been riding them for about a month now and i really like them. I hit a decent size pothole and thought forsure my wheel would be trashed but they are still very tru even after the impact and some aggressive riding!

Mavic MA40 700c gray anodized (A lot of brake wear on the walls)
Superbe pro front hub
Campagnolo Athena? rear hub (I'm not too good with the campy stuff)
Continental Gatorskin tires
Regina BX Extra Freewheel

All the components are nice, but as a wheelset, well, the rims match.

+1. Unfortunately, the mismatched hubs destroy the value, as a wheelset. Most potential buyers want something to match their existing group, preferably by model and at least by brand. With the addition of a lot a sidwall wear on dark anodized rims and the disclosure of a heavy hit, the value pretty much erodes to the value of the hubs themselves. To me, that would be about $40, if I had need for them.

Yeah visiable brake wear and mismatched hubs really kill the value on set of wheels like these. Since these will ride good I would just keep them and use them they are likely worth more to you as a good set of riders than you could sell them for.

Boy have I run across some lovely, but mismatched wheel sets. And, most anodized rims are cosmetically shot not long after they are rubbed by brake pads. The rims look good new but pooey used. So...

Mismatched hubs and cosmetically challenged rims = close to zero value. Also, it does cost a fair bit to ship wheel sets, even rim sets. With that in mind, trying to find a new home for your wheels, if you are faced with having to ship them, will seem like the impossible dream.

Finally, get used to having great, but mismatched wheel sets pile up and hog room for storage. How many times have I gone through The Old Shed and culled out decent wheels. These days, I gut the wheel, save the hubs(if good), and the rims(if good) and even the spokes(if stainless steel and in good shape). I find that wheels are much more marketable this way.

Hope that is a help.

Really too bad re: the mis-matched hubs. A pair of straight MA-40s with Superbe hubs (or Campy hubs) would really be a great find. I had very high regard for these rims throughout the 80s-90s because they were strong enough to be used off-road and yet stay staight. But as the others have said, without matching hubs they are just a mis-matched wheet set. Sorry.

I agree your better off keeping and riding them. MA40s were great rims ( a tad heavyish but indestructable) back in the day.
