Value of Trek 620 Frameset

Hi everyone. I am parting out a 1985 Trek 620 that is made of Reynolds 531 tubing. I have someone interested in it and was wondering what is a fair price. The frame is in great shape with a few small paint scrapes, but no dents, and all the decals are in good shape. I plan to include the original Blackburn color coordinated rack, the fork, and the frame. Any idea on what I should ask? Thanks,

Eddie

I looked at the completed auctions on ebay and seen a 620 that was complete that sold for $530.00 plus $150.00 for shipping for a total of $680.00. It was also a 1985 bike. May give you some kind of idea. Seems people are willing to pay a bit of change for this bike.

Thanks, but my dilemna is that I am only going to sell the frameset. I know the bike is desirable, but I want to make sure the price is fair for both of us. I don't want to go the ebay route if as I would rather sale to someone locally.

ebay is the land of variation. That's an outlier. I bought one on ebay for $113 (that's an outlier as well, that's why I bought it). Figure $150 to $200 +/- for the frameset, depending on condition. Note, selling frames locally, its really hard to get full value out of them, and this time of year, even harder.

^ Exactly. Even here in SoCal it's hard to sell frames locally unless you let it go real cheap or it's super desirable/ hard to find. That's good for a buyer. I picked up a 1985 Trek 660 frame/fork which was pristine for $100 with the Stronglight head set.

If you want max $$ when selling you need a big audience but you say ebay isn't going to happen. You didn't mention the size, that can make a difference.

I would agree fair $150 is fair this time of year, with another $25 for the rack.

I would think $125 seems a fair price based on info.

Thanks for all of the replies. In light of what I paid for it, 175 would be a good price for me. I have never sold anything on Ebay, and although it sounds tempting, I think it would be a hassle to ship a frame. If it fails to sell I will just hold on to it, and maybe build it myself as a long term project.

Hi,

I am building up a 620 myself. Thought about liquidating the parts?

I believe the OPS plan was to use the parts on something else.

Just a rule of thumb here: There was never a '531 frame in reasonably good condition that is not currently worth at least $150.

Rare, collectable, and touring frames with canti's like the 620 are worth more. How much more depends on market and condition.

No pics yet,

Its a 19" frame and the paint is in pretty rough shape with a ding on the top tube. Sigh. Hope a patch of bondo will cure the ding and a nice rattle job will smooth out the finish.

The thing is it is often difficult to get this value I have found that it often times takes a couple of months to sell a vintage 531 bike or frameset locally at a good price but they do sell it just takes a little time and effort.
